Comments on the September 2011 List

I will start talking about the September 2011 list. I will discuss my thoughts on each card that is on the recent list.

Banned:

Fishborg Blaster:
I can see why this card is banned. It has a powerful effect that boosts the power of synchro summoning in Fish and Frog Decks. Also, it severs a good support for Fish and Frog Decks.

Mind Master:
This card has a powerful effect, which a player can use its effect continuously without any limit as long as that player has another Psychic monster(s) except Mind Master and the 800 life points to spend. Plus, it is also a tuner.

Giant Trunade:
This card has no risks to the card holder at all. It can create One Turn Kill plays easily, and it can give the card holder to set up his or her Spell and Trap cards to counteract his or her opponent's plays without any interference.

Royal Oppression:
This card being banned baffles me a lot. I believe that Konami is trying to promote Exceed (XYZ) Monsters by getting rid of this card in Advanced Format. Even so, it is one card out of an entire deck, and if you take a good look at the current banlist, there are multiple ways to get rid of it. Cookie and I believed that this card should not banned especially after seeing other cards that are on the list. Also, Konami is trying to advertise people to buy Steelswarm Roach, but I believed that Steelswarm Roach is a bit overpriced since it can only stop the Special Summon of a monster that is Level 5 and above. Many of the current Exceed (XYZ) Monsters can kill Steelswarm Roach easily.

Limited:

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning:
This card is rediculously powerful. I was surprised that this card was back from the banlist. I used to run him way back during the Chaos Era of Yugioh, and I always win whenever I bring out him or his dragon cousin or both. In OCG, this card is tolerable, but in TCG, this card can be abusive with priority ruling still in effect.

Debris Dragon and Lonefire Blossom:
I put these two together because they are found within the same deck most likely. Debris Dragon can fetch any monster with 500 or less ATK and can synch with other monsters that are not Level 4 for a Dragon-Type Synchro Monster. Most common play is Debris Dragon bringing back Dandylion and then synch Debris Dragon and Dandylion for a Black Rose Dragon. After the synchro summon, Dandylion's effect will kick in and produce 2 fluff tokens. Lonefire Blossom has an effect that the card holder can tribute any Plant-Type monster and special summon another Plant-Type monster from the the card holder's deck. Common play is the abusement of Dandylion's effect with Lonefire Blossom's effect. Both Debris Dragon and Lonefire Blossom can boost up the power of Exceed (XYZ) Summoning.

Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En:
Cookie and I already predicted that the Six Samurai archetype will get hit sooner or later. With him being limited, Six Samurai duelists won't be spamming this monster multiple times in one duel. Even so, he is still strong enough to cause some disruptions to your opponent's plays.

T.G. Hyper Librarian:
Cookie and I already predicted that this card will get limited immediately. Fish Decks abuse this card's effect like there is no tomorrow. A player will have heavy draw power by having him paired with Formula Synchron. Having multiple copies of him on the field equals massive draw power as well. It can be used to synchro summon Level 12 synchro monsters, such as T.G. Halberd Cannon and Shooting Quasar Dragon.

Formula Synchron:
This monster is very good for a Level 2 synchro monster. It is very good in decks that runs Level 1 tuners, such as Fishborg Blaster. It provides the card holder a free draw when it is synchro summon and an instant synchro summon on your opponent's main phase.

Heavy Storm:
This card took over Giant Trunade's place. It provides a plus factor or a plus and minus factor depending the situation. With Heavy Storm back in Advanced Format, many players will be more conservative with their spell and trap cards rather than set all of them down of the field. This will increase the playability of Trap Dustshoot. There are a lot more cards that can counter Heavy Storm than Giant Trundae, such as Starlight Road, Judgment of Anubis, etc.

Primal Seed:
With Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning back in Advanced Format, Konami decided to limit this card. It can only be activated if the card holder controls either a Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning or Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End. This card allows the card holder to return two of his/her remove from play cards back into his/her hand. Decks that run Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning and lots of remove from play style will receive benefits from this card.

Shien's Smoke Signal:
With this card being limited, first turn Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En plays won't be as consistent as used to be. Six Samurai duelists will have to use other Six Samurai support cards to fill in, such as Asceticism of the Six Samurai.

Pot of Avarice:
I am a bit sad that Pot of Avarice is being limited since I used to run two Pot of Avarice in my Dragunity Deck, but it is understandable. Some decks abuse this card when it was at 2, such as Plant Decks with Reborn Tengu. Curse you, Reborn Tengu!!!

Semi-Limited:

Summoner Monk:
When this card is normal summon, it is switched into defense mode. By discarding a spell card, the card holder of Summoner Monk can special summon a Level 4 monster from his or her deck. This card promotes Rank 4 Exceed (XYZ) Monsters and creates those plays easily.

Tragoedia:
When the card holder takes battle damage, he/she can special summon this card from his/her hand. This card gains 600 ATK points for each card in the card holder's hand. This card can make exceed (XYZ) summoning easily either by taking control of your opponent's monster, manipulate its own level, or both.

Necro Gardna:
This card is back from the limited section. This card can negate an attack from your opponent's monster by removing this card from your graveyard. Twilight and Lightsworn Decks made good use of this card in the past, and its usage will increase again in this format since Twilight, Lightsworn, and Chaos will be seen in the playability radar more oftern.

Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier:
Honestly, I did not realized that he went unlimited in the March 2011 list since I usually see it being semi-limited several times in different lists. This card is very powerful in Dewloren's Control Deck since its effect return face-up spell and trap cards that you control back to your hand and it gains 500 ATK points until the End Phase. This effect can easily abuse cards like Gravity Bind, Swords of Revealing Light, etc.

Destiny Draw:
This card is back from the limited section. Decks that run Destiny Heroes will love having one or two Destiny Draw depending on the deck build. This card allows the card holder to discard a Destiny Hero from his/her hand in order to draw two cards. Destiny Hero - Malicious and Destiny Draw is one common play that many duelists will see. Another common play is Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude's effect to draw two free cards without discarding a Destiny Hero.

Swords of Revealing Light:
I am surprised that this card is now at 2. It probably explains why Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier is now at 2 instead of 3.

Mind Crush:
Mind Crush is very good against decks that search a lot and reveal the card that opponent is adding to his/her hand. It is also good in Dark World Decks because you still get benefits whether you guess the card right or not.

Call of the Haunted:
Again, I am surprised that even this card is now at 2. This format provides us more monster revival for future plays.

Unlimited:

Judgment Dragon:
This card is now back at 3. Even though he is at 3, Lightsworn decks won't be the same since Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner; Charge of the Light Brigade; and Honest are limited. The playability of Starlight Road will increase since Judgment Drgon, Mirror Force, Dark Hole, Elemental Hero Absolute Zero, Torrential Tribute, Heavy Storm, and other cards.

Spirit Reaper:
This card went from 2 to 3. This monster is indestructible in battle, but it is easily destroy when it is being targeted by card effect. Also, this card can provide opponent's hand control every time Spirit Reaper inflict battle damage to your opponent.

Overload Fusion:
This card can use the fusion materials on your side of the field and your graveyard and remove them from play to bring out a Dark Machine-Type Fusion Monster. It used to be big when Chimeratech Overdragon used to rule, but those days were long gone.

Mystical Space Typhoon:
More Spell/Trap Destruction Cards. That is all I have to say about this card.

Megamorph:
This card went from 1 to 3. It has two interesting effects depending on your life points and your opponent's life points. It can double the ATK power of the equiped monster if your life points is lower than your opponent's. It can halve the ATK power of the equiped monster if your life points is higher than your opponent's.

Gravity Bind:
This card is now at 3. It can stop Level 4 and above monsters from attacking. It is Konami's way to advertise Exceed (XYZ) Monsters. Some decks love running this card, such as Generation Fish Deck, etc.

Icarus Attack:
I believed that Konami had just realized that people who run Winged Beast-Type Monsters did not run more than two Icarus Attack. Whether this card is at 2 or 3, it is still a good card to run in a heavy Winged Beast Deck.

We're Back!

Hello everyone!

This is Alessandro. Cookie and I are back from our long break, and we are going to kick things off with a bang. First off, please continue to check on our YouTube channel. We are updating our YouTube channel more often than we are updating our blog post. We will try to upload video(s) every week. Cookie and I will give you updates and interesting news in our videos about Konami products this fall semester. Cookie and I will also be working on creating new decks this semester. I am currently working on a deck request on creating an Ice Barrier Deck, but other than deck requests, I will definitely be working on creating Agents and Six Samurai Decks. I won't be dueling with my current decks for awhile until I am done updating either my Dragunity or Gravekeeper's Deck or both, depending on my financial process. Cookie will start working on the Wind-Up archetype. We will take deck requests, depending on the availability of the cards/deck. Please do not make deck requests that contains cards that are expensive and/or hard to find, i.e. Tour Guide From The Underworld Deck. Other than the news above, please subscribe our channel and make comments on our videos. See you later!

Welcome to the Blog that will be updating you all on the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh show, Those Yu-Gi-Oh Guys (Working title).  The show will review and examine different deck builds and archetypes, as well as look at up coming Booster Packs and Starter/Structure Decks.  We are doing this because we love the game and wish to try and get others involved as well.  We look to have fun and (hopefully) make you laugh along the way.  Our show will start sometime in July and will be a weekly to bi-weekly YouTube show but will start slowing down a little when school starts up.  We will try to update our blog as much as possible.  We are excited to share our thoughts and help players out there become better within the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!  Take care and Duel On!
